Hapkido is one of the martial arts styles known predominately as a whole lifestyle dedicated to martial arts. It will teach you to defend yourself in any given situation, it is all about using your confidence and the disciplines that you master which makes you a success at this martial art.
Hapkido shows you how to conduct moves and techniques with the minimum amount of force needed. This is where it differs greatly from many other martial arts styles. Hapkido focuses on the opponents pressure points to immobilise them. There are also many kicks, spin kicks and throws taught which are extremely effective and also quite showy. This style is also very big on wrist and joint techniques. It will teach you how to do certain locks to stop your opponent dead in his tracks. There are believe it or not over 3,500 moves and techniques in this one martial art alone.
Regardless of size, sex and age, anyone can get involved with Hapkido. It is an extremely popular martial art of today; this is probably due to people wishing to be able to protect themselves and their families against an ever increasing crime rate. Hapkido will also involve endurance and cardiovascular exercises so if you are worried that you are out of shape and would not be able to cope with this style then do not fear, it is great for keeping and getting you in shape.
Although Hapkido has strong roots in the self-defence box, it does also hep you to control your weight level, improve self-confidence, posture and your self-control. I think this can only be a good thing. It can also help enhance your muscle mass, that’s got to be a positive.
Everything in Hapkido is executed in a perfect flow of skill and technique where all the moves complement and work together. There is a lot training and rigorous training involved with this style, but in my opinion it goes much further than other martial arts in terms of being able to defend yourself. It is a very popular style and there are schools and Dojo’s throughout which will teach this style, even for young children. The funny thing is with Hapkido is that is actually not that well known outside of the martial arts world, many people think of Judo or Jiu-Jitsu in terms of one of the Martial Arts styles relating to self-defence. This can work in your advantage as if people are unfamiliar with it then it makes the student all that more deadly.
